Topic: Public meetings — recording

Texas Government Code §551.023 allows a person attending an open meeting to record all or part of it using an audio recorder, video camera, or another means of audio or visual reproduction.

A governmental body may adopt reasonable rules governing the location of recording equipment and the manner in which recording is conducted to maintain order. Those rules, however, may not prevent or unreasonably impair a person’s statutory right to record.

The protection applies to an open meeting. It does not create a right to attend or record a portion of a meeting that is lawfully closed to the public.
